Help!

Lance and I have been having a difficult time getting Luke to bed and asleep at a decent hour. When we first transitioned him to the big bed, he did great. Then for about two weeks it took FOREVER to get him to stay in bed (sometimes 2 hours!) and then he was up and out of bed a million times during the night. We got him on a fairly decent schedule for about a month or so (bath at 8:15, story and milk; then it was lights out). But for the past couple weeks he has not been going to bed until 10:00 sometimes. It's mostly my fault for letting him take too long of a nap during the day. He would sometimes nap for 2-3 hours, but with being pregnant, I REALLY loved having the break and the time to rest myself. Well, now that baby is almost here, I have been trying to get him back into a better pattern so I have been limiting his nap to an hour. I even set my alarm so I don't let him oversleep. I would say no nap at all, but then by 3 or 4pm he crashes and is out wherever his little head may fall. So...at any rate, we are back to the struggle of getting him to stay in bed. UGH!!! What to do? Any advice, suggestions, words of wisdom??? I'll try just about anything! :)

Sorry, I have no words of wisdom. But I hope that someone else does. Our Luke likes to take naps early, so by the time his bed time rolls around (6pm) he is usually ready for bed.

ok, have you told Luke about the monster under the bed who will eat him up if he gets out? just kidding!!! I do have some unconventional ways to get kids to stay in bed. Alex was terrified of a mask we had purchased at halloween time, so we placed it in front of her door and she would not pass it. Jordan would not stay in his bed either, but he was small and got moved to a bed before he was a year old, so he could not reach the doorknob. So we just shut him in. We would hear him cry and see his little fingers under the door, it was sad, but worked. After a few days of crying, he just stayed in bed. Actually, I think what you are doing is great and will end up working.

I say use drugs... Cold medicines usually work best. That's probably why I don't have children yet. ;) j/k
